The visual arts at Charles River School are a lively and essential element of our curriculum. Students in all grades work with an art teacher who is also a professional artist him or herself. The overarching goals of the visual arts program from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade are to help students develop an appreciation for visual expression, an ability to express themselves through visual media, a willingness to engage in imaginative thought, and an appreciation for diverse art materials and media.

In all grades, our art teachers work collaboratively with classroom teachers to integrate studio work with classroom thematic studies. Specific studio skills are introduced and reinforced sequentially throughout the curriculum, and students gain experience in a wide range of techniques and media, including drawing, clay, papier-mâché, textiles, prints, collage, water color, oil pastels, and two- and three-dimensional design. Our art rooms are well-equipped and provide large, open spaces in which children work.
