Drama is an integral part of our curriculum. In the early grades, drama is woven throughout the classroom curriculum and is an important way in which our students both learn concepts and information related to classroom themes and demonstrate their understanding of concepts and information.

We use numerous simulations, such as the fifth grade's simulation of immigrants' arrival at Ellis Island and the fourth grade's Yoruban naming ceremony, to help students synthesize and apply concepts. In addition, classes write and perform original plays, some of which are related to classroom themes. Our drama teacher regularly assists classroom teachers in planning and implementing these dramatic experiences with students of all ages.
Students in sixth through eighth grades have additional opportunities to study drama through our weekly electives program. In seventh and eighth grades, our innovative multi-arts program provides students with an opportunity to practice improvisational skills in addition to participating in a full-scale musical production. Through the musical, our students learn about additional elements of theatrical production, including choreography, costumes, and set design.
