Curriculum Library Extended Day
The library is physically and philosophically at the center of Charles River School. We believe that the role of the library is both to foster the enjoyment and appreciation of literature and to provide materials and programs to meet the learning and information needs of students. Our librarian works in concert with classroom teachers to fine-tune the skills necessary for students to become enthusiastic, life-long readers and effective consumers of information and to design special projects, many with ties to classroom themes.

In pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, students have specific times set aside in the weekly schedule when they visit the library. During this time, our youngest children listen to and discuss stories and informational books read aloud to them and select books appropriate to their interests and reading level. In later grades, we continue to support students in developing an appreciation for literature and in making appropriate book selections, but students also learn how resources are organized in the library, how to locate specific information, and how to evaluate information. In these grades, students use the library extensively as a resource for research projects related to their classrooms themes.

Our library's extensive print collection supports grade level thematic study and literacy programs. A computer workstation located in our library allows older students to complete Internet research in the library.
