At Charles River School, students begin the study of a world language-either Spanish or French-in sixth grade and continue the study of the same language through eighth grade. Our graduates are typically prepared for the second year of a language when they enter a secondary school.

| The world languages curricula at Charles River are organized around common themes or topics, such as school or family. Within the context of a given theme, we teach students the relevant vocabulary and grammar so that grammar and vocabulary lessons are meaningful to our students. Collaborative activities, research projects, and technology-enhanced activities, such as an interactive forum and online journals, help students integrate and apply their developing language skills. In our state-of-the-art language laboratory, students use the Can8 software program as they work at their own pace to develop their speaking and listening skills. In addition to study of the language itself, our world languages teachers help students acquire an understanding of the culture and the geography of French- and Spanish-speaking countries.
