Music Overview

At CRS, the primary focus of music learning in the early grades is engagement, immersion and discovery. Concepts and literacy are introduced after children discover the joy and inherent value of hands on learning.  Students learn to sing with a full, relaxed tone as they gain understanding of musical styles and culture.  Each year, they expand skills of creative musical participation through singing, playing instruments, and dancing. At the same time, students learn about musical notation and write and perform their own music.  Students in seventh and eighth grades participate in a multi-arts program that allows them to work directly with artists in a variety of disciplines, including singing, drama, and dance.
