Diversity
Diversity is an essential element of an excellent education and a central tenet of the CRS Mission Statement: “At Charles River School, we…respect ourselves and others, and prepare children to be active participants in our diverse world.” We believe a diverse community offers an opportunity for an interchange of ideas and experiences that enriches learning and we affirm these core values in our curriculum, admissions and the hiring of faculty and staff. Students of color comprise 23% of the CRS student body.
Diversity encompasses differences in the human family, including varying racial and cultural heritages, economic backgrounds and realities, genders, religious and moral beliefs, family constellations, sexual orientations, life experiences, learning styles, physical capabilities and intellectual perspectives.
Our Diversity Committee, comprised of trustees, parents, teachers and administrators, initiates and oversees efforts to embrace diversity in our programs, curriculum and daily school life. Guided by our Diversity Action Plan, Committee members work on programs and education within the school and develop outreach efforts to strengthen our school’s diversity. Of course, building and sustaining a diverse community is not limited to the efforts of a single committee; it’s the work of every member of the CRS community.
