Endowment Increased- for faculty compensation

Walter Horak, art teacher grades 4-8
Charles River School teachers are dynamic, creative and hard-working. They must continue to be compensated appropriately at levels that reflect their commitment, professionalism and loyalty.  CRS set aside $590,000 of new endowment funds raised through Foundations for Learning for faculty compensation. A generous bequest from Richard K. Thorndike '23 for the endowment enabled us to make significant progress in advancing CRS faculty compensation so that it will be more competitive with comparable elementary schools.

Our teachers have always been leaders, learners, and scholars. Following a well-established tradition, the faculty and staff work tirelessly to create unique learning situations so that each child's strengths can be discovered and nurtured.  -Anna Jones, Head of School 1978 to 1993

I discovered a very important key to my learning.  By working in class with teachers that really care, I figured out how I learn best.  I learned that I am a very visual and tactile learner and if I can take the verbal information and make a picture such as a graph or chart, I am better able to understand and remember the concept.  I have learned how to take in information that might not make sense at first and then turn it into material I can understand and use.  Many people don't learn about how they learn until they are much older.  This is just one example of how CRS has put me on the road to life-long learning.
