PROGRAM ENHANCED BY ENLARGED LEARNING SPACES
by Jenn McLean, Director of Studies
Learning
involves constructing your own knowledge and understanding
through dialogue with others.
Educational
research tells us that people who are actively engaged in
learning through discovery, and who learn collaboratively,
understand ideas at a deeper level.
This kind of learning enables every child to create
his or her own meaning and make connections between concepts
and their broader context in the world. Giving information to learners is not enough; to really understand
something, people have to construct or reconstruct concepts
for themselves.
Facilitating
this kind of learning for our students requires spaces that will
allow for collaboration and active learning experiences. The Foundations
for Learning campaign provided us with the spaces we needed
for our rich educational program. Thank you all.
