Grade 4 Scientists Wrap Up Unit on Multiple Intelligences and the Human Brain
Students in Grade 4 had a unique, hands-on opportunity to help them explore different angles of the science curriculum. As the culminating activity in their study of the human brain and multiple intelligences, students were able to dissect a sheep's brain.
They investigated what they had learned about the three parts of the brain (the cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem) and its functions.
Students also explored the limbic system where emotions are stored. Throughout the unit, they learned that stress and high emotions can affect learning. As students handled and studied the amygdala, most commented that they were surprised at how small it was despite being so powerful.
